All that we see, hear, taste, smell, touch, think and feel, all of these are 'effects' brought into being by the One Primal Cause. Call it God, consciousness, the Self, the Eternal, the Supreme, That. These are just names for that transcendent Ground of Being that is the source, course and goal of all that is.
That Thou Art.
Take refuge in the silence. But not at the expense of the living moment in all its fullness. Don't turn away from life to escape into the void and deny the sanctified world. Heaven and earth, eternity and temporality; both exist as One.
"On earth as it is in heaven."
Spiritual integration is, at least in part, holding these two aspects of Being together as One. Both relative and absolute, immanent and transcendent.
This both-ness becomes One-ness, lived in the present moment, known and held as a single indivisible wholeness. Healing the wounds of separation and alienation from our divine nature
When the two become One, this is Yoga, this is One-ing, this is restoration and redemption, and it is our birthright.
Because the two were ever One. They were never apart, never divided. Only in seeming.
Wait for the Bell
Sometimes as I approach the end of my writing session for the day with just a few minutes to go, it’s easy to feel that I’m done, nothing left to come, might as well give my attention to other things.
And then I ask myself: is it really true? Because, who knows? Until it’s done and the bell has chimed, any number of things might still emerge into the light at the last minute.
It’s like John Travolta's savant character in the movie Phenomenon who won’t allow a brain surgeon to shorten the last days of life by doing live surgery on him,"for the good of science,” because he might just have something to say in his last moments.
So just like in meditation, we wait for the bell patiently. We don’t get ahead of ourselves. Then waiting becomes a rich practice of present moment awareness that confronts our expectations, projections and false knowing.
And if discomfort arises - Oh what juice! What spiritual fruit! Something challenging to sit with, something to welcome and include, right here and right now.
In this way we sanctify whatever comes. We recognise and say "this too!" is a gift and an integral part of life’s expression and experience. This too is to be included in the Oneness that we are.
